PATAN (LALITPUR):

Patan, is the oldest of all three cities of Kathmandu valley is best known for its artistic heritage. Roughly 120000 people live in this city. Quite a substantial portion of its population is engaged in various traditional handicrafts. Patan in fact is the city of living handicrafts.

Patan Durbar SquareSome important things to be seen in Patan:

Patan Durbar Square: This is one of the most elegant architectural treasures of which Patan is very proud. About the beauty of Patan, a western lady writer has to stay this-"Patan means eternity itself and Patan Durbar Square is the spectacular sight of Asia Indeed".

Golden Window: This was specially built for King Siddhi Narsingh Malla. His devotion to Lord Krishna as well as the Buddhist god of compassion Karunamaya Lokeshware is a famous episode in Nepalese history of region.

Royal Bath: This gorgeous golden water spout is a real luxury in art. Another attractions of this bath are the marvelous stone crafts most intricately worked out with various religious symbols.

Mahaboudha Temple - PatanMahaboudha Temple: This temple of Buddha-built interestingly enough in Hindu Shikhara style -haws five golden pinnacles. They are all in stupa shape very symbolic of five basic elements. This terra cotta temple also known as the temple of nine thousand Buddha dates back 1584 AD.

Dakshinkali: is the name of a much famed temple of Kali. It is about 18 km. south of Kathmandu. A scenic drive to this place after early Tuesdays and Saturdays are special days to visit this place. Devotees go there to sacrifice animals such as chickens, goats, duck, sheep and water buffalo that generally symbolize human demerit and prey for the health and happiness of their family indeed.
