JUMLA RARA TREK ITINERARY
(12 NIGHTS / 13 DAYS)
 
o      Day 01: FLIGHT/KATHMANDU/NEPALGUNJ.
Transfer to domestic Airport to board Nepalgunj flight. Which last of an hour. Spectacular views of the Langtang, Ganesh, Lamjung, Manaslu, The Annapurnas and the Dhaularigi Himalayas can be seen from different angles, provided the weather is clear, during this flight. Upon arrival transfer to hotel for overnight.
 
o      Day 02: NEPALGUNJ/JUMLA (7773 FT.).
After breakfast, transfer to Nepalgunj Airport to board Jumla flight. Upon arrival at Jumla Air-strip your trek crew will receive you and escort you to the camp site.
 
o      Day 03: TREK JUMLA TO PADMARA (9512 FT.).7-8 HRS.
There are two possible trails to Danphe Lagna, if there is snow, a good chance to have snow in the winter months we take the lower & longer route to Danphe Lagna for camp. The lower trail follows the Northern banks of the Tila river and turns north up the Chaudhabise Khola, leaving the Jumla valley behind as we follow this river for sometime. The trail ascends up the Dhunsi Khola steeply as the canyon becomes narrow with vertical cliffs on both sides. The trail ascends steeply through Pine forest until we reach the large village of Padmara where we camp overnight.
 
o      Day 04: DANPHE LAGNA (11153 FT)/ BUMRA (9577 FT.). 7-8 HRS.
The trail continues ascending steeply to the Pass at 11153 ft. and descends gently alongside a stream, passing few houses. The descend becomes more steep though forest of fir, walnut, birch and bamboo. After a short level stretch the trail zigzags down to the Sinja river. Cross the sinja river on a log bridge and follow the trail through some tea shops. The trail leaves the river and starts a serious climb to the village of Burmra, Where we camp overnight.
 
o      Day 05: DHOTU (7872 FT.). 6-7 HRS.
The trail turns into a big valley then descends to chaura river, across the stream lies the Chautha village. From here a rocky trail follows the stream uphill as the wooded valley becomes narrower. The climb continues to Bhulbhule the National Park entrance for RARA, at 10266 ft. Our permits are examined here and we continue into an immense treeless meadow. The climb from here is gentle but steady passing assortments of Chortens, carins and Prayer flags atop the Ghurchi Lagna, a 11316 ft. pass. Cross a stream Mugu Karnali river and show peak boardering Tibet can be seen from here. The trail continues to follow the Mugu trade route descending gently on a broad path and drops precipitously down rough trail through spruce forest. Another stratch of easy walking leads to the small settlement of Dhiotu, where we camp overnight.
 
o      Rara Lake (2980 m.)Day 06: RARA LAKE (10043 FT.). 6-7 HRS.
Cross a stream and make a steep climb to the village of Jhyari at 8626 ft. Continue climbing through cedar forest to a juge meadow atop a 10004 ft. high ridge with a great view of the RARA lake. Another easy streatch leads us to the National Park headquarters and camp ground on the north side of the lake.
 
o      Day 07: RARA LAKE
Rest day. RARA lake is the largest lake in Nepal. It is almost 13 Km. around the lake and a day devoted to making this circuit is well spent.
 
o      Day 08: RARE LAKE / GOROSSING
From the bridge at the western end of the lake the trail follows the Chatter river to a small settlement of Majhghatta. Cross the stream beside the decrepit mill that grinds away merrily, then climb through Spruce forest as the ascend gets less steep through forest of Pine and Birch. A 12000 ft. ridge is crossed and the trail descends to a juge valley crest. The trail drops into the Ghatta river valley and heads towards Gorosinga, Where we camp.
 
o      Day 09: GOROSINGA / SINJA (8003 FT.). 6-7 HRS.
The trail descends to a stream and climbs to a big gully to a ridgetop. The trail continues looping in and out of side valleys to the village of Lkharpatta at 10069 ft. From here the trail descends steeply to the rocky trail leading to the village of Sinja, Where we camp.
 
o      Day 10: SINJA / JALJALA CHAUR (9512 FT.). 6-7 HRS.
Cross the Sinja river on a wooden cantilever bridge and follow the trail to Jaljala Passing through forest and small settlements. Overnight camp at Jaljala Chaur.
 
o      Day 11: JALJALA / JUMLA (7773 FT.).
The trail continues climbing through forest to yet another meadow to a ridge at 11500 ft. the trail from here descends to a small settlement at Chor river. Continue with gradual ascend to Chere and then it is a final descend to the town of Jumal.
 
o      Day 12: Fly to Nepaljunj. Overnight at the Hotel.
 
o      Day 13: Fly to Kathmandu. End of Trek.
